Inside Bronx Apartment Where Autistic Teen Died After Alleged Years of Neglect — Mom and Grandma Face Charges
New details have emerged about the Bronx apartment where a 16-year-old autistic boy died following what authorities described as severe neglect, while his mother and grandmother now face charges in connection with his death.
Photos and video from inside the family’s apartment on East 147th Street in the South Bronx reportedly show extremely poor living conditions, with rooms filled with garbage, clothing, boxes, toys and other debris.
The apartment’s bathroom was reportedly in serious disrepair, with missing tiles, empty containers, buckets and piles of belongings filling the bathtub and surrounding the toilet.
Other areas of the home were also reportedly overwhelmed by clutter, with clothing, boxes and trash covering much of the floor. Images showed a heavily stained mattress in one bedroom, along with suitcases and additional belongings stacked throughout the apartment.
According to police, Geneva Jarvis, 36, brought her 16-year-old son, Adonis Jarvis, and his twin brother to Lincoln Hospital on March 19.
Adonis did not survive, and authorities later determined that his death was a homicide. His mother and 62-year-old grandmother, Denise Jarvis, were subsequently arrested and face charges related to the teenager’s death.
Authorities allege that Adonis experienced prolonged neglect and severe nutritional deprivation. His twin brother reportedly survived and has since been placed in a safe environment.
The case has raised serious questions about the conditions inside the home and whether warning signs may have gone unnoticed before the teenager’s death.
New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services said it could not release case-specific information but confirmed that the surviving child had been placed in a safe situation.
“The safety and well-being of New York City’s children is our top priority,” the agency said, adding that it was working with the NYPD to investigate the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the family members will be addressed through the legal process.
