The Dragon Mother Returns EP1

Eira was dead. Her body lay still beneath the frozen earth of a brutal winter, covered in a blanket of white snow. But Solren—a young dragon with scales the color of blazing fire—refused to leave her side. He collapsed beside the cold grave, letting the snow pile high upon his back, letting out weak, mournful whimpers filled with the agony of losing his mother.

Eira was no dragon. She was a human woman who had taken Solren in when he was nothing more than an abandoned egg in a blizzard. She had given him warmth, taught him love, and shielded him from the hunt of the outside world. Now that she was gone, Solren’s entire world had shattered.

On the third night of keeping watch by her grave, amidst the biting cold, Solren felt something miraculous. Deep within his chest, the flame of his soul vibrated softly. He realized a profound truth: his life-fire did not belong to dragonkind alone—a small fragment of it was the very warmth Eira had breathed into him throughout his childhood. A piece of his mother’s life was still burning inside him.

Facing a choice between life and death, Solren made a decision that would change everything.

He let out a roar that tore through the dark night and pressed his glowing chest against the frozen ground. Solren began drawing upon his primordial flame—the sole source of life for a dragon—and poured all of that magical heat down into Eira’s grave. The frozen earth melted away as the deep crimson fire spiraled into the soil.

The ground trembled. Eira’s hand moved.

Eira awoke from the realm of the dead, gasping for air amidst the icy mist. But as her eyes opened, the joy of rebirth instantly turned into absolute horror.

Solren was kneeling before her, but the brilliant flame that once lit up his scales had gone out. His once-crimson scales were now reduced to the color of faded ash. The young dragon’s eyes, once bright as fire, grew dim, and his breath was so faint it was barely perceptible. Solren had traded his own life force to bring his mother back.

“Solren… what have you done?” Eira sobbed, throwing her arms around the dragon and pressing her warmth against his cold, ashen scales.

Solren merely nuzzled his freezing snout gently into her lap, offering a whisper of a cry. His flame was fading with every passing minute. If it extinguished completely, Solren would turn to dust forever.

The only way to save Solren was to reignite his primordial flame. To do that, Eira and Solren had to embark on a perilous journey: to uncover the truth behind Solren’s birth—the mystery of the legendary dragon egg from years ago, and why his flame possessed such miraculous power of rebirth.

As the sun rose over the snowy peaks, it illuminated the shadow of a human mother leading her faded grey dragon into treacherous lands, beginning a race against time to save the child who had sacrificed his life for her.
