A powerful flash flood tore through the Himalayan border region of Nepal and Tibet, destroying villages, sweeping away roads and leaving hundreds of people missing in one of the region’s most devastating disasters in recent years.

The disaster struck on August 26 after a massive surge of water, mud and rock rushed through communities near the Nepal-Tibet border. At least 157 people have been confirmed dead in Nepal, while hundreds remain missing, including foreign tourists and pilgrims from several countries.

The disaster has affected areas including Rasuwa district, where towns such as Syapru Besi and Timure were heavily damaged. Homes, bridges and vital infrastructure were swallowed by the floodwaters, leaving entire communities cut off from the outside world.

A Paradise Route Turned Into a Nightmare
The Himalayan region is known around the world for its breathtaking landscapes, ancient trails and spiritual journeys.

Every year, thousands of travelers, trekkers and pilgrims visit the area, hoping to experience the beauty of the mountains.
