At least 3 people are dead after a news helicopter crashed in Los Angeles Tuesday evening near the scene of a deadly Metro bus wreck, with a longtime anchor at NBC4 crying while she said “we have lost contact” live on the air.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said the one of the people killed was likely a pedestrian who was not in the helicopter. At least one person was killed in the crash.

It was not immediately clear who was involved but early reports indicate the helicopter belonged to KNBC.

“We have lost contact with our people,” Colleen Williams, anchor at NBC4, said while crying on air as she covered the story.

Three people have been determined dead on the scene, and one individual has been taken to a local hospital in unknown condition, according to the LAFD.

It was not immediately clear how many people were aboard the helicopter or who was involved but early reports indicate the helicopter belonged to KNBC.

The helicopter landed in a parking lot near cars that were also on fire when firefighters arrived.

The helicopter crashed between two commercial buildings on the 9100 block of Mason Avenue, setting several nearby cars on fire.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found both the helicopter and the cars burning close to where emergency crews were already helping people from an earlier bus accident.

Flames had since been extinguished at the helicopter crash scene, but firefighters remained in the area, ABC 7 reported.

The helicopter crash unfolded as first responders were dealing with a separate deadly collision nearby involving a Metro bus and another vehicle.

At least two people were killed in the bus crash, emergency personnel said.

Six others were injured and taken to hospitals in unknown condition.

The bus collision was reported shortly after 5 p.m. near Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The helicopter crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
